Play Go Guide

How to play Play Go like a pro

How to Play

Go is played on a grid, typically 19x19, by two players who alternately place black and white stones on empty intersections. Stones remain on the board unless surrounded. A group with no empty adjacent intersections, called liberties, is captured and removed.

The goal is to surround more territory than your opponent. Territory is empty space completely enclosed by your stones. The game ends when both players pass consecutively.

Controls

Click an intersection to place a stone. Pass or resign using the game controls.

Scoring

Territory plus captured stones determine the score. Komi compensates White for moving second.
