The XY-Wing uses three cells, each with exactly two candidates. The pivot cell sees two wing cells, and the wings share one candidate with the pivot and one candidate with each other. Any cell that sees both wings cannot contain the shared wing candidate.

Coloring tracks a single candidate through strong links, where a candidate appears exactly twice in a unit. By marking alternating colors, you can spot contradictions: two cells of the same color in the same unit mean that color is false, and the opposite color is true.
